Bar Layout Design - Lead Designer @ Bergstrom Architects

A popular existing pub in Milperra, the client wanted to breathe new life into The Mill Hotel by creating a destination venue with multiple offerings. The renovation would including food and dining, a lounging space, a kid's recreational area, outdoor terraces and the ability to host live music.

As lead designer at the interior architecture and interior design firm, Ruth worked closely with the client to create several fresh and vibrant spaces within the hotel. Renovations to the bar layout design include a new feature display kitchen, as well as an updated bistro and lounge. The new updated areas lead into the external space, producing a colourful entertainment area with a subtle tropical palm spring style. A highlight of the hospitality interior design is the addition of the external layered backlit screen to the entrance block, creating a dramatic statement which is visually eye catching from the road.

Robust and durable materials and finishes were specified on the project, while still displaying the venues quirky and fun elements. Breeze block balustrade and a feature wall were introduced, assisting to open up the outdoor terrace. While the addition of a new feature faux rig-style unit with faux planting and custom metal large scale pendants effectively reinvigorated the space. Existing timber boarding and ceiling panels were also painted in vibrant stripes and patterns, adding a splash of colour to this bar layout design.

Other features of the refurbishment include custom design carpet, timber internal wall panelling, metal shelving throughout the venue, a tile finished bar with ombre-style vinyl graphics and feature tiles to the new burger counter with a curved metal hood.

The renovated hotel now has a new lease on life and is a hit with locals and pub enthusiasts from all over the area.
